Job Summary

The Storekeeper is responsible for efficiently managing all site materials, tools, and equipment. This includes receiving, storing, issuing, and recording materials and supplies used in construction operations. The ideal candidate ensures inventory accuracy, minimizes material loss, and supports site operations with timely material availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive & Inspect Materials:

    • Verify construction materials and equipment deliveries against purchase orders and delivery notes

    • Report damaged or missing items and coordinate with procurement or suppliers

  • Inventory Management:

    • Maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing materials

    • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inventory counts; reconcile discrepancies

    • Ensure materials are stored safely, properly labeled, and organized for easy retrieval

  • Material Issuance:

    • Issue materials and tools as requested by site engineers, supervisors, and workers

    • Track returnable items such as tools, machinery, and equipment

    • Record and monitor consumable usage to reduce wastage

  • Site Coordination:

    • Liaise with site engineers and procurement team to ensure timely material availability

    • Coordinate material movement across different project zones or subcontractors

  • Storage & Safety:

    • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines in the storage area

    • Implement proper stacking and handling procedures, especially for hazardous or heavy items

  • Record Keeping & Reporting:

    • Maintain stock registers, delivery notes, GRNs, issue slips, and transfer logs

    • Generate periodic inventory reports for management review

    • Utilize inventory management software or spreadsheets (e.g., Excel)

Job requirements

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent; diploma in logistics, construction management, or a related field is an advantage

  • Experience:

    • 2–5 years of experience in storekeeping, preferably in the construction industry

    • Familiarity with construction materials (cement, rebar, pipes, electrical items, tools, etc.)

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Knowledge of stock management systems (ERP, WMS)

    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and basic data entry

    • Basic understanding of material codes and construction terminology

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong organizational and time management skills

    • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced site environment

    • Team player with good communication skills

    • Physically fit to lift and handle construction materials
