Job description

  1.   Job Purpose:

A BIM Modeler (Dry Utilities) is responsible for creating, managing, and coordinating detailed 3D digital models of dry utility systems-such as electrical, telecommunications, gas, and street lighting-within large-scale infrastructure works (roads, highways, urban developments, etc.)

2.   Principal Accountabilities:

  • 3D Modeling and Documentation

    • Develop and maintain accurate 3D BIM models for dry utility networks (electricity, telecom, gas, street lighting) using software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and related tools.

    • Prepare models and drawings aligned with project Level of Development (LOD) requirements for design, construction, and as-built documentation.

    • Generate 2D drawings, layouts, and sections from BIM models to support construction and permitting processes.

  • Clash Detection and Coordination

    • Perform clash detection and resolve conflicts between dry utilities and other infrastructure systems (wet utilities, roads, structures) using Navisworks or similar tools.

    • Participate in and sometimes lead coordination meetings with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of all utility models.

  • Automation and Process Improvement

    • Utilize automation tools such as Dynamo for Civil 3D to streamline modeling processes, improve efficiency, and reduce manual errors.

    • Develop scripts or workflows to automate repetitive tasks and enhance BIM deliverables.

  • Quality Assurance and Standards

    • Ensure all models and drawings comply with project BIM standards, company protocols, and industry regulations.

    • Conduct regular model audits, quality checks, and maintain high standards for BIM implementation and data integrity.

  • Data Management and Model Updates

    • Manage and update BIM models throughout the project lifecycle, reflecting design changes, construction progress, and as-built conditions.

    • Maintain organized records, version control, and documentation of all model revisions and updates

  • Communication and Technical Support

    • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other BIM professionals to gather input, clarify requirements, and resolve technical issues.

    • Provide technical support and guidance to team members on BIM software and workflows.
